Welcome to Woodward Ranch
home of
5J Performance Horses.

The ranch came into the Woodward family in 1919.  George Woodward bought it when his son Harold was 13.  Harold later married Adelle Scott and raised four daughters on the ranch.  Delia was the youngest.  Today, Delia and her husband, Rob Nuffer, own and operate the ranch.  Rob and Delia raised two sons which became the driving force to raise top quality performance horses.

Always riding a 5J Performance Horse, Jared, the oldest son, became a Nevada high school champion in the calf roping, team roping and steer wrestling events.  He joined the PRCA during his second year of college after winning the Big Sky Regional Steer Wrestling title.  Today, Jared and his wife, Toma, live in Medicine Lodge, Kansas where they market and train barrel horses as well as operate 5J Custom Tack.

Brandon followed the rodeo path too.  Several times, he was Nevada High School champion calf roper, and team roper as well as 4th place finisher in the steer wrestling at the Silver State Invitational.  He also earned the title of Reserve Big Sky Region Team Roping Champion.  Twist, Brandon's head horse, was chosen to take on the job of hazing for numerous contestants.  Brandon now resides in Douglas, Wyoming.  He owns Nuffer Fencing, LLC which can be seen all over the Northwest.

Delia has worked in all aspects of the ranch.  Recently she has taken on the duties of maintaining this website.  You'll always hear her say "Stop by and visit.  The coffee is on."

Rob, himself, is an avid team roper, calf roper and enjoys participating in Ranch Hand rodeos.  Today, he takes in and rides outside horses that are in different stages of their careers.

The 5J horses – there have been many to pass through the Woodward Ranch corrals.

  • Starting with Aunt Char and her offspring, along with the bloodlines of Louie de. Both horses went unshown, but not untried.
  • These mare bloodlines have been kept while breeding into popular blood lines such as, Doc Bar, Rum Squall, Docaweena, Dual Pep, Mr.Pepinnita Flo, Easter Raider, Grey Badger ll and others.
  • The opportunity was taken to purchase Vaquero Legacy 9 years ago.  This proved to be a good decision.  Vaquero has not been shown, but has proven to be a gentleman and a easy horse on which to complete any task.
  • Four years ago, a stud colt was purchased.  This colt became known as Rags (Ecols Easter Raider). He has his first foal crop on the ground and they will be tried soon.  Rags pulls his weight on the ranch doing his part as a 5J Performance Horse.  He will become a head horse this coming year.

Rob and Delia created 5J with the dream of providing ranchers and people going down the road with a competitive stock or arena horse.  They are proud of their limited showing in 2004 at The Great Basin Four Event.  Rob Nuffer and Don’t Skip Dessert took the Two Rein Championship.  Sally Drennon rode her horse Fish placing third in the Great Basin Bridle Three Event.

Sally Drennon is a new 5J associate who comes with an outstanding set of credentials.
